Rabbids Crazy Rush are a spin-off of Ubisoft ‘s Rayman series , but the Raving Rabbids saw their popularity spin into their own series of video games and merchandise.

While the Raving Rabbids are immediately comparable to the Minions of Despicable Me fame, it’s worth noting that the Raving Rabbids predate the Minions (though the aliens from Toy Story certainly predate both). Tiny, cute, babbling characters tend to sell well, and there’s no shortage of funky costumes and vehicles for you to unlock or buy in Rabbids Crazy Rush—and the stakes are pretty high! It can also be quite funny when you mess up during a race, as the Rabbids’ animations and antics are full of laugh-out-loud silliness.

Running games like Run 3 and Temple Run are an increasingly popular way for developers to utilize an existing gameplay formula while featuring headline characters: the Minions, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spider-Man, and many other iconic characters have received similar mobile games. Rabbids Crazy Rush offers unique gameplay for a running game that sets it apart from other titles, with a barrage of action-packed features. A variety of vehicles can be unlocked and customized for use throughout the game. These include outlandish vehicles such as shopping carts with rocket straps, fan propellers, and even a hang glider made entirely of pink pants.

Many Levels

The game is divided into levels, and each level has unique challenges you must complete. These challenges might include the total distance traveled, the number of pepper cans collected, grabbing special items, a specific number of air blasts or ducks, and using the aforementioned vehicles. Of course, the longer you run, the harder it becomes to stay alive. You are awarded a number of stars based on your run performance, and these stars can be used to unlock new levels or converted into plungers. Plungers can revive you during a failed run or be converted into cans for vehicle upgrades. Naturally, you can also purchase plungers through the in-app store.

Aside from level-specific challenges, the game also includes special energy-limited maps to complete. Successfully completing these additional levels will unlock a special suit, but you can also unlock suit parts through other means. Suits can also be upgraded to higher-level versions. Each suit has a unique power that only lasts a few seconds, but it can certainly make a big difference during a race. Suit powers are divided into three categories: Destroyer, Jumper, and Bling-Bling.

The Destroyer lets you navigate through obstacles you’d otherwise have to avoid, the Jumper lets you perform double jumps, and the Bling-Bling doubles the number of cans you collect. If you combine the Bling-Bling suit with the Glider Magnet power-up, which absorbs all nearby cans regardless of your lane position, you can collect a surprising number of cans in a short amount of time.

Earn coins to unlock things

If you’re keen to grind coins to unlock things, you can also try the lucky laundry levels. You need to be at level 20 to start unlocking them, but these levels generate a much higher coin rate than normal levels and are considerably easier to complete.

You can play them as many times as you like, so their purpose is really to let you work your way up to unlocking things you’d otherwise have to buy. The Lucky Laundromat also acts as a random reward dispenser, unlocking more bonuses like extra coins or outfit pieces.

Putting aside the familiar action-runner gameplay, the game’s 3D graphics are quite impressive, with plenty of beautiful objects on screen and background scenery. It might sound insignificant, but if you’ve played Temple Run or Subway Surfers, you’ll understand my point about the lack of visual detail in those two popular titles. Rabbids Crazy Rush’s levels are filled with many small details and background objects, with minimal aliasing.

It almost feels like a PC graphics card should be powering the game. You’d think all the extra scenery drawn on the screen would be a huge waste of resources, but Rabbids Crazy Rush runs quite well on newer devices—the key word being that there are newer devices.

Overall, Rabbids Crazy Rush feels remarkably similar to other racing games in its core gameplay, but it offers a wealth of its own unique mechanics and challenges, making it feel like a fresh addition to the genre. It currently holds a 4.2-star rating on the Google Play Store, with some users complaining of stuttering or game glitches. No game crashes or ringing issues were experienced during this review, which was conducted on two separate Android devices: the Asus Zenfone 3 Max and the Samsung Galaxy J5, both mid-range phones.
