Geese and Ducks

In Goose Goose Duck, players turn into Geese or Ducks and join a match with many other players. Everyone is placed on a large map where they can freely move around and complete assigned tasks.

The main goal of the Goose team is to complete all tasks in the match to win. Meanwhile, the Duck team has a “Kill” ability, allowing them to secretly eliminate Goose members when they get a chance. Not only that, Ducks can also perform various sabotages to disrupt or slow down the task progress of the Geese.

The match ends when one of the two teams meets their winning condition. The Goose team wins if they complete 100% of their assigned tasks. Conversely, the Duck team wins if the number of living Geese drops to equal the number of remaining Ducks in the match.

The voting round in Goose Goose Duck

As mentioned above, the Geese win if they complete all assigned tasks. However, this is not the only way to win. The Goose team can also win by eliminating all Ducks from the match.

So, how do Geese eliminate Ducks when most of them do not have a Kill ability? The answer lies in the voting mechanic. Players can trigger a voting round by reporting a dead body they discover or by using the emergency meeting button in the center area of the map. When a meeting starts, all players have time to discuss, raise suspicions, and vote for the person they believe is a Duck. If unsure, players can also choose to “Skip” their vote.

When the discussion time ends or all players have finished voting, the results are announced. The person with the most votes is eliminated from the match. However, if the votes for “Skip” are equal to or greater than the highest votes for a player, or if two or more players receive the exact same number of votes, no one is eliminated in that voting round.

Social deduction in Goose Goose Duck

Although the voting round is an important tool to help the Geese find and eliminate the Ducks, this mechanic does not always favor the Geese. If Duck players know how to hide their actions, create alibis, or convince others to trust them, they can easily use the meetings to blame the Geese and get their opponents eliminated.

This is exactly what makes the voting round one of the most exciting mechanics in Goose Goose Duck. It is not just a place for players to share information and make deductions, but also a stage for arguments, suspicions, and deception. The ability to observe, remember, and persuade others is sometimes just as important as completing tasks or making assassinations, creating the deep strategy and social interaction that defines the game.

A diverse and exciting role system

One of the biggest differences between Goose Goose Duck and other games in the genre is its incredibly diverse role system. Instead of just dividing players into good and evil sides, the game adds a variety of special roles to both the Goose and Duck teams. Each role has its own mechanic or ability, creating many unexpected situations in every match.

Besides the two main teams, Goose Goose Duck also features Neutral roles. Players in this group do not side with either the Geese or the Ducks and have their own unique winning conditions. Although they usually appear in small numbers, they still have the power to completely turn the tide of the match. If a neutral role completes their goal, both the Geese and the Ducks lose.

A prime example is the Dodo Bird. The player with this role always tries to make others suspect them and vote them out of the match. Interestingly, what other roles try hard to avoid is exactly the winning condition for the Dodo Bird. If voted out in a meeting, the Dodo Bird instantly wins the game, regardless of how the other teams are doing.
